Personal service
We are a small store with a big heart! Our sales folks -- Nina Frantz and Allan Howe -- listen carefully to find out what you are looking for. Then we show you in-store items and pictures in our producers' catalogues that help you have clear choices and get what you want. And you will know the price before you place your order.
Wide selection
We work with about 25 different Amish families, each with a specialty. Usually we can give you many styles for the furniture you seek. You can choose to have your item built from one or more of several hardwoods. And you choose the stain from about twenty possibilities.
Assured top quality
The father of Jesse Miller on our staff is a senior Mennonite woodworker who has guided us toward most of the producers we work with. He has examined their work and vouches for it. Countless woodworkers have visited Plain and Simple and examined our items, often to get ideas for what they might do.
Area producers known to us personally
Almost all the furniture available through Plain and Simple comes from Amish families in LaGrange County in north central Indiana. We have visited most of them in their workshops and talk with them frequently by phone or voicemail. By shopping at Plain and Simple you are participating in a strong network of relationships among folks who stand by the quality of our work and want the best for you.
Convenient location
Plain and Simple is located in the Main Street Station shopping area in south Evanston. Surrounded by both street and off-street parking, our store at 713 Main St. is three blocks east of Ridge Ave. and four blocks west of Sheridan Road. In the entire Chicago metro area, we are the Amish furniture store nearest to the city of Chicago.
Caring and careful people
Plain and Simple is a business of Reba Place Fellowship, a 50 year old non-profit Christian intentional community located in south Evanston. Over the years Reba Place has launched Reba Early Learning Center, the Overground Railroad, Ten Thousand Villages of Evanston, and other programs that have helped thousands of people. The furniture available through Plain and Simple comes from Amish families whose forebears for many centuries have embodied a lifestyle of simplicity, strong family commitments, hard work, and forgiveness.
